Police Investigate 6 Burglaries in 11-Day Span

Residents reported six residential burglaries between Aug. 20 and Aug. 31 in the Three Village area, according to reports from the Suffolk County Police Department. Thieves hit Pembrook Drive, Kemswick Drive, Davidia Lane, Highwood Road and Stony Brook Road in Stony Brook, as well as West Parsons Court in Setauket.

Stony Brook University officials are ramping up security after reports of a robbery and an attempted robbery on campus came in over the course of three days.

Police Offering Reward for Information on Setauket Hit-and-Run Death

The Suffolk police department's Crime Stoppers unit is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the Aug. 23 hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a Setauket man.

Setauket's Caroline Church Gets Facelift

With a setup that looked like it could have come straight off a movie screen, workers from Valley Restoration, based in Torrington, Conn., recently completed exterior resurfacing at the Caroline Church of Brookhaven. Church officials announced last week that "steeplejacks" scaled the walls of the church to complete "a much needed exterior resurfacing" 75 feet above the ground.

Asian Bakery Coming to Stony Brook's Smith Point Plaza

Customers hungry for Asian cuisine and groceries have plenty of options in the Three Village area, what with two food markets already open in town, a third grocery on the way and many eateries that cater to lovers of this cuisine. Soon you'll have one more option: an Asian-style bakery, slated to open in the Smith Point Plaza in Stony Brook on Nesconset Highway.

Country Corner Opens Following Renovations

It's been a long time coming. The Country Corner, a local bar that has been around for more than 100 years and which has been in Ben Saraydarian's family for 23 years, closed on Sunday for interior renovations. The bar reopened Wednesday and Saraydarian couldn't be happier with the work he and contractor Steve Molison have accomplished.
