Long Island Museum, Neighbor

The Long Island Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate dedicated to American history and art as they relate to Long Island. Nine scenic acres in the heart of Stony Brook include three exhibition buildings, outdoor sculpture, gardens, a one-room schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop and other historic buildings. Permanent and changing exhibitions and the finest collection of horse-drawn vehicles in the country explore Long Island's rich cultural history. Classical and contemporary art enrich the visitor experience. Public programs, music, workshops, lectures and educational opportunities are offered throughout the year. The Museum Gift Corner offers hand-made jewelry, pottery, books, fine glassware, toys and unique gift items created by local artisans. The museum and Gift Corner are open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
