West Meadow Beach Walkathon to Benefit Educational Trust

This Saturday, a Setauket mom will be remembered by her friends and family at a walk at West Meadow Beach.

Friends and family of Julienne Carone Diers will head to West Meadow Beach on Saturday morning for the "I Walk for Jules" event at 9 a.m. to celebrate her life and raise money for her children's educational needs.

Julienne died in July of 2010 after a yearlong battle with cancer, leaving behind her husband Dan and two young sons, Nathaniel and Mason. The memorial walk is organized by her dear friend and Three Village mom, Darcy Buscaglia.

According to Buscaglia, Julienne grew up in Bayville and attended Locust Valley High School, but was drawn to Three Village for the excellent school system. Jules, as her friends knew her, was a special education teacher and valued the importance of a good education. She was actively involved in her boys' early childhood education at Play Groups Pre-School in Setauket, where she served on the board. An educational trust was created to ensure Nate and Mason receive the education that their mother had wished for.

“It sounds like a cliché ... but she loved life and got the most out of every day," Buscaglia said. "She didn’t sweat the small stuff. When battling her disease, Jules was very open and honest about it. She was very empowering and inspirational to others.”
