Volunteer Roundup: Help at a Local Animal Shelter or Play Poker for a Cause

Five ways to give back in and around our community.

Whether you attend a Mother's Day Brunch, volunteer with a local organization or play in a charity poker tournament you'll be living the spirit of volunteerism in Three Village. If you are part of a group that is in need of volunteers, please let us know by adding a "Volunteers Needed" announcement or sending us an email.

Running season is in full swing and for all of the runners in the Three Village community, participating in races to support local is a great way to give back. The 4th Annual Judy's Run for Awareness is set for Sunday, May 22 at 9 a.m. at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park. The 5K run and 1 mile Fun Walk is held each year to generate donations to promote public awareness about strokes, educate about prevention, and provide treatment for those who have suffered a stroke.

  • Support the American Diabetes Association at a Mother's Day Brunch

The Three Village Meals on Wheels program provides meals to people in need Monday through Friday in our community. The organization is always looking for volunteers to deliver the meals to residents of the Three Village community or help out in the office. For many of the people receiving the meals, a visit from the volunteers is the only face-to-face interaction they have that day. To learn more about volunteering, email 3villagemow@gmail.com or call (631) 689-7070.

If you are an animal lover, then volunteering at Save-A-Pet Animal Recue and Adoption center could be perfect for you. The center, located in Port Jefferson Station, is committed to helping abused and abandoned dogs and cats find permanent homes. There are many ways to get involved with the organization, which has a volunteer program for adults and a junior volunteer program for kids. You can also sponsor a pet for $30 a month until they find a permanent home. For more information about getting involved with the center, call 631-473-6333.
