Photo of the Day: Eagle Scout Efforts Help Improve Greenway Trail

Nick Brigantino leads the way in installing a new bench, plantings, and bat houses on the trail.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Centereach resident Nick Brigantino led a fundraising push to purchase a new green bench made out of recycled materials for the Gnarled Hollow Road parking lot of the Greenway Trail.

Brigantino's fellow troop, Troop 229 in Selden, and its adult leaders turned out on Sunday morning to install the bench along with several bat houses they made, which were placed in the trees off the trail. They also purchased plants to put around the new bench for a beautiful touch.

Charlie McAteer, chairman of Friends of the Greenway, said the organization "is proud of the fund-raising efforts of this Eagle Scout and his troop and the giving back to the community in the form of this latest Greenway recycled bench along with the beautiful plantings and our first bat houses constructed and installed. This helps to keep our community jewel improving and better serving our neighborhood."
