Local Colleges Offer Day of Service in Honor of Martin Luther King

Event to be held on Saturday at Stony Brook University.

Locals can join in on a day of service to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day this Saturday at Stony Brook University.

Participants will work with representatives of several Long Island volunteer agencies, including the Long Island Volunteer Center and New Yorkers Volunteer, while assembling emergency preparedness kits for vulnerable communities.

Key Note speaker will be Stephen G. Post, SBU professor of preventative medicine and author of “The Hidden Gifs of Helpring” Post has studied the benefits and links between altruism, compassion, happiness, healing and health for nearly two decades.

The event takes place in the student activities center ballroom B from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is held in conjunction with Suffolk County Community College. For more information and to register, click here.
