Sidewalk Work on Nicolls to Wrap Next Week

Sidewalks, curbs and guardrails are being added from the Sheep Pasture Road/North Entrance Road intersection to where the road ends at 25A.

The ongoing project to install sidewalks along Nicolls Road near the Route 25A intersection should finish some time next week, according to Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn, who has trumpeted the project.

Sidewalks, curbs and guard rails are being added from the Sheep Pasture Road/North Entrance Road intersection to where the road ends at 25A.

“This project will protect pedestrians utilizing Nicolls Road and link the Stony Brook University campus to the greater community,” said Legislator Hahn. “By providing sidewalks here, pedestrians will no longer have to walk in a vehicle travel lane, which threatens their safety and impedes the flow of traffic.”

The construction follows the installation of sidewalks along the southern edge of Route 25A stretching from the Stony Brook Long Island Rail Road station to Nichols Road.

According to Hahn, the Nicolls Road project is paid for by the county's capital projects fund and will be completed a year ahead of schedule.
