Sports Notebook: Seawolves Grab Share of America East Hoops Title
Men's basketball team has chance to win conference outright; baseball team starts off 0-6.
The Stony Book men's basketball grabbed at least a share of their third America East title in the last four years on Sunday – as well as the No. 1 seed in the conference playoff tournament – with a win on Sunday up at the University of Maine.
Behind a double-double from Tommy Brenton, the Seawolves defeated the Black Bears, 69-53 in Orono. Brenton broke his own school record in Division I play with 20 rebounds, adding 14 points and seven assists in the win, bringing Stony Brook to 21-6 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
The Seawolves can earn the conference title outright with a win in either one of their final two games.

Freshman Jameel Warney had a game-high 15 points, as well as seven boards.

The Seawolves start off their 2013 season on a six-game slide after losing three in a row to the nation's top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels.
UNC beat the Seawolves, 11-2, on Saturday before taking 7-1 and 9-8 games on Sunday to complete the sweep.
Stony Brook had put up six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning of the final game, however a pair of Tar Heel doubles in the bottom of the ninth, followed by a based loaded, game-winning single dropped the Wolves to 0-6 on the young season.
Women's Hoops Hosts Final Home Game, Defeats Maine
The Seawolves women's hoops team hosted their final game of the season on Saturday, taking down Maine, 56-53.
Led by a career-high six three-pointers from Dani Klupenger, Stony Brook improved to 14-14 on the season, and 6-9 in America East play.
"It’s just special when you can send your seniors out on such a good day," said Head Coach Beth O’Boyle.
Men's Lax Squad Falls to No. 6 Virginia
The Seawolves men's lacrosse team dropped a game on Saturday afternoon at home to No. 6 Virginia, 13-7.
Despite 19 saves from freshman goalie Dan Shaughnessy, the Cavaliers topped the Wolves, improving to 11-0 over SBU, rallying after a 5-0 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Stony Brook University softball earned a split with Bucknell and Longwood on Sunday, leaving a weekend tournament with a 3-1 record overall.
The Seawolves grabbed 13-2 and 3-2 victories on Saturday before defeating Bucknell, 4-3, and falling to Longwood, 3-0 on Sunday.
They stand at 4-6 overall, with no games yet in conference.
