Sports Flash: SBU Soccer Teams Pick Up Wins as Fernandes Nets Honors

It was a good weekend for the men's and women's soccer teams.

Leonardo Fernandes had a heck of a weekend on the soccer field for Stony Brook: senior midfielder assisted on the team's first goal and then scored the gamewinner in a 2-1 win over Fordham on Friday, and on Sunday, he netted two goals in the team's 4-0 win over Buffalo. For those accomplishments Fernandes was honored as the America East player of the week and as a selectio to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week. Alejandro Fritz and Antonio Crespi each logged an assist in the game against Fordham.

Stony Brook 3, Lehigh 1: The Stony Brook women's soccer team came back from an early deficit to win on Sunday on the strength of goals from Tessa Devereaux, Larissa Nysch, and Sa'sha Kershaw. "I think we came out fired up in the second half and I can't say enough about the depth of our team," coach Sue Ryan said after the game. "We were able to rest a lot of our starters, so they were fresh for the second half and it really showed as we scored twice in less than five minutes."
