SBU Men's Lacrosse Team Takes America East Title

Defeats Albany 14-8 on Saturday to earn its third conference championship.

Coach Jim Nagle said it would have been a hard game to predict, given the transition year Stony Brook was having: its best senior class in school history had graduated last year, and there was a coaching change to boot. But the top-seeded Seawolves fought through that this season, eventually facing No. 3 Albany in the America East Conference Championship game on Saturday at LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves prevailed, 14-8, and are headed to the NCAA tournament.

"Considering all the one-goal games and the slow start to the season, it's nice that we played our best game of the season when it mattered most," Nagle said in a statement after the game.

Jeff Tundo scored four goals and Sean Brady made 11 saves to lead Stony Brook (7-9), which will be only the third team in Division I lacrosse history to enter the NCAA tournament with a losing record.

Brady was named the America East tournament's Most Outstanding Player and senior Kyle Moeller, a South Setauket native, joined him on the All-Championship team.
