PHOTOS: Seawolves Give Iowa Everything They Have in 75-63 Loss

Stony Brook basketball team exits NIT in the second round.

The Seawolves' historic season came to a close on Friday night with a 75-63 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes in the second round of the NIT.

Stony Brook, seeded No. 7, had knocked off No. 2 UMass days earlier in the first round of the NIT in order to reach the second round and take on No. 3 Iowa.

Stony Brook trailed by just three points, 37-34, at halftime, but was stifled by the Hawkeye defense in the second half and made just four field goals in the final 9:36 of the game. Stony Brook outscored Iowa 26-20 in the paint during the whole game.

"We knew we would see a very good Iowa team," head coach Steve Pikiell said in a statement on Friday. "I thought we played well and battled with them until the end, but they were better tonight. But I'm proud of my guys; they played tough tonight and all season long. They are part of the best season in program history."

Freshman Jameel Warney led the Seawolves with 17 points and seven rebounds, while junior Anthony Jackson added 15 points and junior Dave Coley added 12 points. Stony Brook shot 47.1 percent for the game. Iowa's Roy Devyn Marble led all scorers with 28 points.

Senior Tommy Brenton finished his career with 971 points, 1,115 rebounds, 405 assists and 220 steals; his totals in rebounds, assists and steals all rank first in the program's Div. I history.

The team finished its season overall at 25-8, having won the most number of games in its Div. I history.
