Three Village Students Take Top Honors in Music Competition [AUDIO]

NYSSMA chose five Three Village students' compositions out of more than 100 entries statewide.

Works by five Three Village student composers have been selected to be played at the New York State School Music Association's 2011 All-State Winter Conference.

Mount Elementary students Julia Hu and Lawrence Lan, Murphy students Michelle Hu and Albert Liu, and Ward Melville student Gloria Zheng are five of 16 students statewide to receive this honor.

Minnesauke Elementary students Julia Campanella and Justin Moreno, Setauket Elementary students Dominick Consentino and Emma Cowan, Gelinas students Michael Bilfinger and Stephen Chu, and Ward Melville student Kathryn Leung received honorable mentions in the competition.

Dan Deutsch, director of the district's music composition program, described Zheng's piece – which accompanies this article – as "contemporary and abstract, but also impressionistic and sensitive."
