SBU Students Talk Sex in the Media

Classes addressing wide range of issues surrounding sexuality.

Students at Stony Brook University are talking about sex – specifically, where sex intersects with technology, according to a report published this week in The Statesman.

"We discuss the idea that there are a high number of sexualized messages in the media and that this certainly affects the young boys and girls who certainly use mediated technology," said Catherine Marrone, who teaches a class called SOC 395, Topics in Science, Technology and Society: Perverts, Pimps and Pills.

Topics of discussion include online dating, cultural changes, and technology, while not specifically focusing on sexual acts. Marrone's SOC 395 class isn't the only class
