Resident Advisor: Welcome in the New Semester

A weekly guide for Stony Brook University students.

As the fall semester kicks off, Patch will once again bring Stony Brook University students a weekly guide to not only the University, but also the community surrounding Stony Brook. In addition to a number of on- and off-campus exhibits and 9/11 memorial events, this week is also jam-packed with "Welcome Back" themed events.

Monday, Sept. 5: New York Remembers
An exhibit at the Wang Center commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 6:
A multimedia exhibit at the University Art Gallery at the Staller Center featuring Yoko Ono and John Lennon's love- and peace-themed works both as solo artists and together as a couple. A 1 p.m. lecture entitled “Yoko Ono: Imagining Peace 1966 – 2011” will accompany the exhibit.

Wednesday, Sept. 7: UNITI Cultural Center Open House
From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., stop by the UNITI Cultural Center at the Stony Brook Union Suite 135 to find out what it's all about.

Thursday, Sept. 8: Fraternity and Sorority Night
From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., stop by the Sports Complex Arena to learn more about Greek life on campus.

Friday, Sept. 9: USG Blacklight Party
This. Sounds. Like. So. Much. Fun. Head down to the Staller Terraces from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 10: Wine Tasting
For students ages 21 and over, is a short drive from campus on Route 25A. Check out a 3 p.m. wine tasting event.

Sunday, Sept. 11: Fire Department Memorial Service
Commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11 at the Setauket Fire Department's memorial service, set for 7:30 p.m. at the Nicolls Road firehouse just south of campus.

Life Off Campus
Tuesday night is on Route 25A in East Setauket, a short drive from the University, starting at 8 p.m.

Dates to Remember
Sept. 5 is the last day to withdraw from all classes and still get a full refund on tuition. Between Sept. 6 and Sept. 12, dropping all classes will result in a 70 percent refund. For more information, check out the Academic Calendar.
