Report: Foundation Paid Thousands to SBU President, Med School Dean

New York Post reports two top Stony Brook officials got paid from both the university and the Stony Brook Foundation.

Not only have Stony Brook University's president and medical school dean made six-figure salaries, but they have also collected compensation from the Stony Brook Foundation, according to a report published Sunday by New York Post.

The Stony Brook Foundation, a nonprofit entity that seeks to enhance the educational and research impact of the university, paid University President Dr. Samuel L. Stanley Jr. $250,000 in 2011, according to New York Post. Stanley was paid $400,000 in 2011, along with use of a car, and resides in a university-owned property in the Three Village area.

New York Post also reported that the foundation also paid Dr. Kenneth Kaushansky, dean of the School of Medicine, $400,000 in 2010 and $319,679 in 2011. Kaushansky's regular salary was $387,500 in 2010 and $395,250 in 2011. Kaushansky also received a loan of $600,000 with an interest rate less than 2 percent, according to New York Post.

The foundation "is able to help the university attract top talent and foster excellence in a very competitive market,” a Stony Brook University spokeswoman told New York Post.
