Principal: Scavenger Hunt Not Organized by School

As rumors circulate that a number of Ward Melville students will be participating in a student-planned scavenger hunt, high school principal Dr. Alan Baum released a statement saying that the school district has not planned or sanctioned a scavenger hunt and that the activities involved may be risky.

"Aspects of the scavenger may be dangerous or illegal," he said. "In no way do we, as a school or a district, condone any aspect of this scavenger hunt. If any student is caught participating in any inappropriate or illegal activity either on or off campus they will be disciplined."

Baum implored students to use good judgment and not take part in inappropriate or illegal activities, and he asked parents to talk to their children about the issues involved.

"We have had a great start to the school year and we would hate to have it tainted by something inappropriate," he said. "Please do the right thing."
