Construction of new AstroTurf soccer fields at the South P Lot at Stony Brook University is underway.
The construction is part of an agreement between the Three Village Soccer Club and the university reached in March to more evenly distribute playing field space between the club, which had occupied the space for decades, and the university students' teams, which needed more space to practice and play its interscholastic games.
Mitch Pally, president of the Three Village Club, said he has been told the construction will be completed before students return to campus for the fall semester. He said the agreement worked our well during the soccer club's spring season and that it's looking good for their summer games and fall season, too.
"We will have enough fields to take care of our needs," Pally said. "We look forward to continuing our relationship [with Stony Brook]."
Stony Brook representatives could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.
