"Make sure you fully understand concepts instead of merely memorizing facts."
Those wise words came from Ward Melville High School senior Cathy Wang, one of 101 high school students chosen nationwide – and only one of two from New York State – by the Siemens Foundation to earn a $2,000 scholarship to college for her performance on specific Advanced Placement tests.
Wang, a senior, was a National Merit Semifinalist and plans to study engineering or physics in college, hoping to become a scientist or engineer afterward.
In her spare time, she enjoys performing in the school marching band and playing tennis.
The Siemens Foundation focused their scholarships on students with high scores in science, technology, engineering and mathematics AP courses.
Wang has taken 15 AP courses, noting her favorite one being physics B.
