UPDATE 12:55 P.M. – Inclement weather has forced the school district to cancel the community pep rally and bonfire originally scheduled for Friday night.
For the first time in school district history, Three Village residents are invited to a community pep rally and bonfire at Ward Melville High School in celebration of Homecoming weekend.
Previously, the pep rally was an in-school event. Now, everyone can join the fun, which starts at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
"This year, we are trying to inject a greater sense of school and community pride to our homecoming events," high school administrators said in a statement. "... The district feels that homecoming should be a community event, not just a high school event. They hope that this pep rally will help to get residents involved in the weekend’s activities."
The pep rally will feature performances by the cheerleaders and marching band, with special introductions for all fall teams, both junior varsity and varsity.
On Saturday, the lineup of games includes:
- 10 a.m. – Boys' varsity soccer game, JV field hockey game
- 12 p.m. – Homecoming carnival featuring various school groups
- 12:15 p.m. – Varsity field hockey game
- 2 p.m. – Homecoming football game
The varsity football team will take a 3-0 record into its 2 p.m. game against Commack, which is 1-2 on the season so far.
