Former Stony Brook Meth Lab House Up For Sale

The Setauket Fire Department responded to a fire at the house in December of 2012.

A house in Stony Brook that police said was the site of a methamphetamine lab fire in 2012 is now up for sale, according to listings on two separate real estate websites.

The house, 188 Sycamore Circle, is listed as a six-bedroom, four-bathroom farm ranch and is priced at $449,000 on both Zillow.com and MLSLI.com. It features wood flooring throughout the house and a new dining room window. It comes with a tax bill of approximately $12,425 and sits on just over a third of an acre at the corner of Sycamore Circle and Sycamore Drive.

Prior to this listing, the house was previously sold in June of 2012 at a price of $395,000, online records show.

The property owner declined to comment when reached through a Realtor.

The Setauket Fire Department and Suffolk police responded to a fire at the house on Dec. 6, 2012, and a week later arrested Thomas Steinmetz, 34, in connection with the incident. He was charged with three felonies: fourth-degree arson, criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine and first-degree reckless endangerment.

According to online court records, Steinmetz recently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year in prison for the methamphetamine charge and one year for the reckless endangerment charge. He was also sentenced to six months for a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
