Hahn Wins Suffolk Fifth Legislative District Seat

Kara Hahn defeats Anthony Moncayo with more than 57 percent of the vote.

Democratic candidate Kara Hahn has defeated Republican candidate Anthony Moncayo in the race for the Suffolk County Legislature's fifth district seat with 57.51 percent of the vote, or a tally of 7,464 to 5,511.

Hahn will succeed Legis. Vivian Viloria-Fisher, D-Setauket, who could not run again due to term limits.

Hahn, formerly the chief of staff to current Viloria-Fisher, D-Setauket, is the immediate past president of the Civic Association of the Setaukets and Stony Brook. She currently works as aide to Presiding Officer Bill Lindsay, D-Holbrook, who was re-elected Tuesday night.

has 30 years of military service to his name, and has also served nearly 20 years in the county and state court systems, including 15 years as an assistant attorney in the tort litigation bureau. Currently an attorney in private practice, Moncayo is a 38-year resident of the Town of Brookhaven.
