An unknown individual attached the sign below an existing "No Outlet" sign at the corner of New Street and Chestnut Avenue. Village officials said the sign will be removed because it is not in compliance with local codes for legal signage.

"It's cute," mayor Barbara Donovan said, "but it's illegal."

Donovan said she had a possible idea as to the identity of the sign's originator, but declined to mention any names.

The village has recently experienced a few minor but mischevious incidents related to signs. When it in August, signs informing residents of the closure along with a chain barring access soon went missing.

Donovan also said the village received a phone call from an official in Orient – some 50 miles east of Poquott – when a "No Swimming" sign that had disappeared from a village beach washed up on the shore there.
