Suffolk County Legis. Kara Hahn (D-Setauket) was sworn in to a second term, taking the oath of office at Thursday’s Organizational Meeting of the Legislature.
Hahn spoke with Patch shortly after her election win and said she was eager to get to work on environmental issues.
“There is a lot more work to do on water quality. It is very important to find ways to reduce nitrogen use and clean up excess nitrogen for water that enters our bays,” she said.
Hahn, who is chairwoman of the Legislature’s Environment, Planning and Agriculture Committee, said she is also focused on open space.
“We have to continue to work on that and get more dollars to invest in open space,” said Hahn who added she is working on ideas for that.
Hahn represents the residents of Suffolk’s fifth legislative district comprised of the hamlets of East Setauket, Setauket and Stony Brook; the Incorporated Villages of Belle Terre, Old Field, Poquott and Port Jefferson and portions of the Coram, Mount Sinai, Port Jefferson Station and Terryville communities.
