Local hedge fund manager Robert Mercer – previously reported to have donated to super PACs supporting Mitt Romney – has jumped into the local ring, according to a Think Progress report, supporting First Congressional Candidate Randy Altschuler, R-St. James, with $500,000.
Mercer, the co-CEO of East Setauket-based Renniasance Technologies, was reported to have supporting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Prosperty First Inc., a super PAC supporting Altschuler, was created in April and stated in its most recent report that Mercer contributed the majority of the $635,000 raised in its first few months. The group has purchased nearly $275,000 in ads so far.
