Local Women Honored by County Executive

Steve Levy unveils Women's Wall of Fame at county headquarters.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy honored three local residents and the former president of Stony Brook University with plaques in a newly designated "Women's Wall of Fame" at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge last week.

Sandra Feinberg of Stony Brook, Brooke Ellison of Stony Brook, Julie Woodley of Setauket, and Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny, who presided over the University between 1994 and 2009, were among 29 women who received the honor.

Each was lauded for her contribution of energies and talents, sometimes at personal sacrifice, to "the advancement and well-being of women in the county," according to a press release.

"It is an honor to recognize all of these remarkable women for all the good things they have done for the county and its residents," Levy said in a statement. "These 'hall of famers' are the true pillars of our community and this Wall of Fame will serve as a tribute to them."
