Worker Injured in Fall at Stony Brook University

Setauket Fire Department's technical rescue crew responds to call.

A worker attempting to enter an underground utility room fell from a ladder at Stony Brook University's School of Dental Medicine on Wednesday around 9:15 a.m., according to fire department and university reports.

The man, whose identity was not released, was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center and is listed in stable condition, university spokesperson Lauren Sheprow said.

The man is a compressed air and vacuum system technician employed by Bohemia-based Iacono Inc. Setauket Fire Chief Brendan Brown said the worker was climbing down a ladder into a below-ground utility room containing compressors which supply the School of Dental Medicine.

"While climbing down into the room, we think he slipped and fell about 15 feet," Brown said.

The man then called for help from his own cell phone, Brown said.
