Two Injured in Three-Car Accident on Nicolls Road

Wednesday afternoon crash sends two drivers to Stony Brook University Medical Center with unknown injuries.

A rear-end chain reaction accident involving three cars closed the southbound left lane of Nicolls Road in Stony Brook and caused delays for about an hour Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred around noon directly across from the Setauket Fire Department's Station No. 3. Drivers of a 2004 Mini Cooper and a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero were transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center with injuries of an unknown nature.

No one was hurt in the car driven by Marylou Previti of Lindenhurst, whose passengers included two minors on their way to a volunteer engagement.

"I was stopped in traffic waiting to move, and I was rear ended," said Previti, whose 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan sustained the least amount of visible damage. "I don't know what happened behind me."

A Suffolk County police officer at the scene described the accident as a chain reaction in which "it looks like someone wasn't paying attention."
