In a letter dated March 6, the Three Village Central School District informed its residents that a sex offender has registered with a residence in the district.
According to the letter, a moderate-risk Level 1 sex offender has taken up residence in the Setauket area, zip code 11733.
"This information is intended to inform you, not unduly alarm you. Please use this information as an opportunity to review personal safety issues with your family," the letter reads.
Names and street addresses are not publicly made for Level 1 sex offenders in accordance with state law. State law requires sex offenders to register their addresses with the state.
According to the Sex Offender Registry, two Level 2 sex offenders are residing in Setauket and one Level 3 sex offender is residing in Stony Brook.
