Missing Woman with Dementia Located in Setauket

Woman is a resident of the Sunrise Assisted Living center in East Setauket.

A representative of Sunrise Assisted Living in East Setauket has confirmed that Elizabeth Anson, 78, was found Tuesday morning at a Suffolk County Water Authority property in Setauket.

"She's fine," said Frank Morosky, executive director of Sunrise Assisted Living, where Anson is a resident.

Suffolk County police issued a Silver Alert on Monday evening seeking the public's help in locating the missing woman. Sixth Precinct patrol officers were involved in the search but it was not clear whether they were the ones who found her.

A police spokesperson said Anson was found at 11:08 a.m. at an enclosed Suffolk County Water Authority tower near the intersection of Mud Road and Ridgeway Avenue in Setauket – over two miles from the assisted living center.

A spokesperson for the Suffolk County Water Authority said it is unclear how Anson was able to get inside the property, which functions as a pump station. No one at the SCWA could recall any similar incidents in the past.

Anson, whom police said has dementia, was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center as a precaution. Morosky said some residents, including Anson, are permitted to leave the facility.

Suffolk County police have issued a Silver Alert for a missing 78-year-old woman, a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in East Setauket, who suffers from dementia.

Elizabeth Anson was last seen leaving the facility at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday wearing a brown fur coat and taupe-colored pants. Police said she may have been heading east towards Stop & Shop.

Anson is a Caucasian female weighing 130 pounds and standing at 5-foot-3, with short, reddish gray hair and blue eyes.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen her to call the Fugitive/Missing Persons Section at 631-852-6040. The Silver Alert program is a county-wide law enforcement program which helps locate missing persons with special needs.
