An afternoon fire broke out at a home on Thompson Hay Path on Friday, destroying most of the home.
According to reports, a neighbor called 911 about 4 p.m. on Friday saying fire was coming out of a first floor window of the home.
William Rohr, 2nd Assistant Chief of the Setauket Fire Department, told Patch the fire was quickly brought under control. “There was heavy fire on the first floor, which started impinging on the house next door,” he said. “There was no one home at the time and no animals or people were in the house.”
Three surrounding fire departments, Selden, Terryville and Port Jefferson, aided in the response.
The one-and-half-story home included an unfinished attic. Area neighbors have commented that the home may be a rental home. A search on the town of Brookhaven’s website regarding rentals did not have the 11 Thompson Hay Path home on its registry of rentals.
It is not clear how the fire started and according to Rohr, it is under investigation by the town of Brookhaven.
