Fire Guts Home on Barnyard Lane

The home was unoccupied at the time.

The cause of a fire that gutted a vacant home at 8 Barnyard Lane in Setauket early Friday morning has yet to be determined, according to fire officials.

The fire was originally reported to police at 1:16 a.m. and took firefighters around 30 to 45 minutes to place under control. The home was unoccupied at the time and there also appeared to be no furniture inside, fire officials said. No injuries to the firefighters were reported.

A nearby neighbor described the home as "a small ranch that was recently sold," and said the house had been under renovations for about a month.
