UPDATE, 5:15 p.m. – Police have reopened 25A after workers cleared the large, downed tree that blocked the roadway for much of Thursday.
UPDATE, 1:30 p.m. – Local residents are reporting that the tree is still down across the roadway and the street is still closed.
UPDATE, 11:11 a.m. – Suffolk police are reporting that Route 25A has been reopened in East Setauket following the closure Thursday morning due to a downed tree.
Suffolk police closed Route 25A in East Setauket in both directions at Bayview Avenue after strong winds caused a tree to fall across the roadway on Thursday morning.
Reader-submitted photos show a transformer box lying on the ground, and the LIPA Storm Center's outage map shows power outages in the area.
Additionally, other power outages linger in the Old Field area and Setauket near West Meadow Beach. LIPA spokesman Mark Gross said there are about 300 power outages in the Setauket area.
"It’s safe to assume its storm related but not sure of the exact issue at this point," he said in an email to Patch.
