Crime Report: Sex Offender Arrested; Suspicious Packages Found

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Robert Allen, 53, a sex offender formerly living in Centereach, was arrested May 1 in Setauket on a felony charge of failing to register a new residence under New York State sex offender laws. Allen allegedly did not inform authorities that he had moved, which is required within 10 days of a change in address, and was arrested on a warrant. A police spokesperson could not disclose Allen's status as a level 1, 2 or 3 sex offender.

Alison Steidl, 33, of East Setauket, was arrested May 3 in East Patchogue and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police arrested her at 10:55 a.m. at the corner of Taylor Avenue and Hampton Avenue. She allegedly possessed crack cocaine.

Suspicious Packages Found. A resident of Upper Sheep Pasture Road reported receiving a suspicious package on May 1 at 9:21 a.m., and employees at a business located on Technology Drive reported receiving a suspicious package at noon on April 26. In both instances, Suffolk police confiscated the packages for further investigation.
