Crime Report: Arrest Made Following Alleged DWI Accident

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Sara Stegemann, 28, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested April 4 in East Setauket and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police arrested her at 3 a.m., saying she was intoxicated, after the car she was driving struck another vehicle at the corner of Route 25A and Van Brunt Manor Road.

Jose Melendez, 24, of Lake Grove, was arrested April 2 in East Setauket and charged with second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor. Police said Melendez lied about his identity after they pulled him over on Route 347 in East Setauket for allegedly speeding.

A resident of Westwood Avenue in Stony Brook reported March 29 at 11 p.m. that someone threw a mailbox onto the vinyl bed cover of a 2007 Toyota Tundra, damaging the cover.

A resident of Erik Drive in East Setauket reported March 31 that an unknown person called at 8:30 a.m. and attempted to pull off the "loved one in danger" phone scam against which Suffolk police have recently warned. The complainant was able to identify the scam and did not fall victim to it.

A man reported an attempted robbery in the parking lot of Kohl's in East Setauket on April 5 in which one man distracted him by asking for a cigarette while another man pushed him from behind and attempted to steal his wallet.
