Cops: Stony Brook Man Stole Car from a Residential Garage

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police arrested a Stony Brook man early Sunday morning whom they said stole a car from a residential garage in Bohemia.

A 911 caller reported the theft of a 2007 Dodge from an open garage at a home on Walnut Avenue in Bohemia at approximately 1:30 a.m.

A Fifth Precinct officer and two New York State officers were on patrol as part of an anti-crime campaign following Hurricane Sandy, and found the vehicle abandoned on a nearby street. They stopped a man who was walking in the area, and determined that he was the man who stole the vehicle after finding its keys in the garage.

Police arrested Jerrod Lafonte, 27, of Stony Brook, and charged him with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny. Lafonte was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
