Reverend John Kefalas, a longtime Greek Orthodox leader from Setauket, died April 8 at the age of 68.
Kefalas, who suffered from liver cancer, was ordained in 1976 and spent 33 years at St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Blue Point. More than 1,000 people attended his funeral on April 10.
"His parish was not just within the church," Anita Kefalas, his wife of 43 years, told Newsday. "It was also outside the church," she said. "He loved helping people of all ethnic groups ... He'd be fighting for them."
