Three Village Schools Gets Visit from the Islanders

Three New York Islanders recently visited Setauket Elementary school.

When members of the Setauket Elementary School fifth- and sixth-grade chorus performed at the NY Islanders game against the Detroit Red Wings on Nov. 16, more than 500 cheering fans attended to see their pitch-perfect performance. To show their appreciation for the students’ performance and their crowd-filling efforts, three Islanders recently visited the school.

During the school assembly for grades 3-6, forward Eric Boulton and defensemen Aaron Ness and Matt Carkner spoke about leading a healthy lifestyle, nutrition, exercise and teamwork. Following the informative program, the students in grades K-2 demonstrated their school and NHL spirit by high-fiving the visitors as they exited the building.

More than just a memorable event, the students’ performance at the game also served as a community service fundraiser for the school. Proceeds of $5 per ticket sold were donated back to the school in support of the beautification of the Setauket School Children’s Courtyard. As a result of the building’s efforts, an estimated $2,500 was raised for this cause.
