St. Jude Children's Hospital Wheels for Life Bike-A-Thon

Port Jefferson, NY, USA (September 22, 2011) - - The Eighth annual St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wheels for Life Bike-A-Thon, will take place Sunday, October 9th at Heritage Park in Mt. Sinai (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.).  All proceeds from the event will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Children of all ages who like to ride are invited, and there will be fun for everyone including food and refreshments, raffle prizes, a DJ and other family activities throughout the day.  Besides bicycles, all non-motorized vehicles are welcome, including scooters and roller blades.  Joggers and walkers are also invited, and riders earn sponsored donations for each lap completed.

Donations, volunteers, sponsors and vendors are needed. Anyone wishing to participate in anyway can call (631) 474-8531, Ext. 12 for information.

Primary sponsors include Symbio, Sound Choice DJ Entertainment, The Arizona Ice Tea Company and McNulty’s Ice Cream of Miller Place.

Over the past 7 years the annual bike-a-thon has raised over $70,000.  Many local companies have donated generous prizes to be raffled or given to riders who bring in the most donations. Prizes include gifts from major New York sports organizations, bicycles, gift certificates and much more.

 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was founded in
1962 by Danny Thomas, and is one of the world’s premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children, primarily pediatric cancers.  Part of the organization’s mission is to find cures for these children at no cost to families.  About 4,700 patients are seen at St. Jude yearly, treating children from all 50 states and from more than 70 foreign countries.
