UPDATE: Some Electricity Restored in Stony Brook

No ETA yet on Setauket power outages.

Some residents of Stony Brook have seen power restored while others are still out of luck, according to LIPA's Storm Center.

Service alerts on the website earlier on Monday indicated Stony Brook residents could expect the power to be back this afternoon by around 4 p.m., but some are reporting via social networking websites they are still without power. Of the 4,369 customers without power prior to 4 p.m. Monday, 2,177 still remain without electricity, according to LIPA.

As of 6 p.m., there is no word for residents without power in the Setaukets, as LIPA is still assessing the conditions in those areas.

Additionally, service has been restored to all but 50 LIPA customers in Poquott, and 350 customers in Old Field are still experiencing outages. There is no estimated time yet for the power to be restored in the rest of those two communities.

More than 11,000 people in the Three Village area are still without power as of 7:30 a.m. Monday, according to LIPA's Storm Center.

In a held Sunday afternoon at LIPA's Hicksville headquarters, LIPA chief Michael Hervey told members of the media the company would not be giving estimates for the amount of time it will take to get power back.

"We will be in damage assessment mode for the remainder of the afternoon into the evening and then picking up in the morning," he said.

In Three Village, 11,294 LIPA customers are without power, while for Long Island as a whole, about 471,000 were without power on Sunday afternoon.

The power outage represents Long Island's largest power outage in 26 years. LIPA's predecessor, LILCO, dealt with 750,000 outages after Hurricane Gloria in 1985.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
