Things to Do in Three Village: #28 – Learn How to Sew

Sewing is one of those classic arts that never goes out of style, especially with the popularity these days of do-it-yourself projects.

Three Villagers are in luck: We've got our very own sewing center, Beyond the Thimble, which opened in East Setauket in 2010.

There's a class nearly every day, from "Beginning to Quilt" ($90 for a four-session class) to block-of-the-month programs and advanced classes for full quilts and wall hangings ($24.99–$75). There are also free classes to learn how to use sewing machines the store sells. There's even a quilting club, the Smithtown Stitchers, which meets on the first Monday of each month to make comfort quilts for hospitals, charities and veterans' homes.

Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call the store at 631-737-3944 for more information.
