The Dish: American Omelette at Jake Starr Café

A breakfast big enough for lunch and dinner too.

Whereas previous editions of have delivered reviews of the tastiest lunches and dinners in the Three Village area, today's entry is all about breakfast. It's served all day at Jake Starr Café in Stony Brook, and we've got a suggestion to make.

The Dish: American Omelette ($9.75)

What's Inside: Turkey and spinach cooked into an egg white omelette. Traditional breakfast comfort food – home fries and toast – are included on the side.

Eat the Because: You want a feel-good kind of breakfast – and maybe lunch and dinner, too. The American omelette here is big enough to share, or take home and eat later.

Side Dish: Upgrade to a dish of fruit on the side for $2.

Lets be candid the restaurant is very average and a bit soulless inside folks. My wife and i have met the owner and he seemed very nice but the place is just not the best breakfast place in the area..Toast coffeehouse and Maureens are by far better in my opinion.

I have tried the restaurant several months ago with my relatives before visting the university. The Restaurant was surprisingly quiet and i do understand the soul-less comment. The food was very average and i did try the omelette which was very standard fare and certainly not something to write about?.Maureens in Smithtown is a cut above and i do hear nice things about Toast Coffeehouse in Port Jefferson but have not tried it yet.

Sadly the food is not at the level of Toast Coffeehouse in Port Jefferson .My kids and i have eaten there a few times and it is ok.I can say we liked the waitress who was very nice but in my view the food and ambiance are along the lines of a nice diner but a bit more expensive.
