More Snow Headed for Three Village

Storm not expected to be as severe as the post-Christmas blizzard.

Weather reports indicate more snow is on the way for Long Island's north shore, though it won't be as severe as the that crippled the region.

Snow showers are expected to start Thursday night and continue Friday, though accumulation predictions vary slightly. A winter weather advisory issued for Suffolk County by the National Weather Service warned of up to five inches of snow, while another local weather report is anticipating two to four inches of snow.

"It's important to note, the computer forecast models have been tending towards a weaker scenario for [Friday's] snow and showing less impressive banding than the models showed earlier this week," weather blogger Matt Hammer said. "I simply am taking what the models say with a grain of salt at the start of this winter with all the flip-flopping they've been doing."

Either way, be prepared. Town officials said last week that homeowners should move cars off the road to allow for most effective plowing. The number for Brookhaven's Highway Department, which coordinates snow removal efforts, is 631-451-9200.

They were last week, but Home Depot in South Setauket and Lowe's in Stony Brook have them in stock as of Thursday evening, according to employees at the stores. in East Setauket has them, too, and all three stores have plenty of ice melt on hand.
