A handful of franchisees have opened or are on the cusp of opening new businesses in central and northern Suffolk County. Among those names: Jamba Juice, Dunkin' Donuts, and Sport Clips. Jamba Juice Opens in Stony Brook
Jamba Juice opened its doors on the most infamous shopping day of the year and is off and running already, according to owner Scott Borland. "We're finding that about 50 percent of people who come in here have already heard of or tried Jamba Juice," he said. "... We're exceeding expectations." So far, the most popular items at the Stony Brook location include the Strawberries Wild, Caribbean Passion and Banana Berry smoothies. Jamba Juice accepts Wolfie Wallet and will soon be lauching "BOGO" specials for Stony Brook University students on Wednesdays. High school student specials are also on the way.
Moe's Owner: Having Fun Keeps the Business Going
Moe's owner Bill Mullaney is no stranger to working in a service industry, from being a hotel manager prior to owning the eatery. Aside from making money, Mullaney said there is one thing that keeps him in Moe's six days a week that was missing from the hotel industry – fun. "It's something different every day, it's just enjoyable," he said. "I like the interaction with the staff, I like the product otherwise I wouldn't have done it, and just dealing with the guests is fun."
Dunkin' Donuts Replacing White Castle in Mount Sinai
Just months after the closing of White Castle in Mt. Sinai, a Dunkin' Donuts is set to open in the location on Route 25A. The business is currently hiring, and Franchisee Mohinder Singh told Patch that the location will be a drive-thru store and the drive-thru will be open 24 hours. "We'll be opening shortly, but don't have a date yet," he said. "We thank the community for having us." This will be the first Dunkin' with a drive-thru in the area, as the Miller Place and Port Jefferson Station locations are only walk-in restaurants.
Walk-in Urgent Care Center Opens in Commack
A new medical clinic will be opening its doors to start seeing patients in Commack on Saturday. Premier Care Walk-In Urgent Care will be opening its doors to local residents in need of medical care on Saturday at 6500 Jericho Turnpike in Commack Corner Shopping Center. Premier Care is a medical center that "provides care for life's mini-emergencies," according to its website. It's urgent care center is designed to provide local residents with an alternative to the emergency room when their primary care physician can not be reached.
Sport-Themed Haircutter Coming to Hauppauge
A national sport-themed hair care chain targeting men and boys is expected to be opening up in Hauppauge in coming months. Opening up in the Hauppauge Shopping Center at the intersection of Routes 111 and 347, Sport Clips has leased about 1,150 square feet and will be the franchise's second on Long Island among roughly 950 across the nation. Sport Clip's first foray into the area is located in Selden's Independence Mall, and the Hauppauge location is expected to open within eight months.
Fanny Cakes Opens in Nesconset
For those locals with a sweet tooth and a passion for gourmet treats you have a new business in Nesconset to frequent – Fanny Cakes. The newest business in the area is owned by Kristyn Weiser, and along with local politicians, Nesconset Chamber of Commerce members, friends and family, she celebrated the opening of her new business venture with a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday. Weiser, a Smithtown resident and professional chef and baker, named her business after her late grandmother Filomena, affectionately nicknamed "Fanny" by her friends and family. "She used to teach me how to bake all the time, we'd be in the kitchen for hours," said Weiser. "It felt natural for me to pay homage to her." Weiser is a product of the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City, and after selling her goods through her website for roughly two years she decided a storefront was the proper next step in her career.
