Snider to be Honored by Long Island Music Hall of Fame

Rockstar Dee Snider of the band Twisted Sister will be among the honorees at the Long Island Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony at in Huntington on Oct. 18.

Performers representing several different generations and genres of music will be among the fourth class of inductees into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame announced Wednesday in Huntington.

Snider, a Three Village resident, was previously inducted into the hall and will receive this year’s 2012 Harry Chapin Award. He is known for his charitable works for the March of Dimes through his "Bikers for Babies" event and .

Singer Taylor Dayne and Lovin’ Spoonful bandmates Joe Butler and Steve Boone are among the inductees, who were announced at the Paramount Wednesday with inductees on hand including Butler, Randy Jackson of the progressive rock band Zebra, the classic rock band Barnaby Bye, and the death metal band Suffocation.

The Oct. 18 ceremony will also serve as a fundraiser for the hall’s new home in Port Jefferson Village.

Jim Faith, chairman of the hall’s board of directors, said Wednesday, “Since our formation seven years ago, the artists who have created our musical history, as well as the Long Island community, have been exceptionally supportive of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and its efforts.”

Also being honored this year are:

• Songwriter Ervin Drake, who wrote, among others, “It Was a Very Good Year.”
• Concert Security Systems In and its founder, Ira Maltz.
• Songwriter Ellie Greenwich, who died in 2009, and who wrote or co-wrote such works as “Leader of the Pack” and “River Deep, Mountain High.”
• Jones Beach Theater.
• Composer Leo Kraft, professor emeritus of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.
• Musicians from the Shinnecock Indian Nation.
• WALK-FM radio.
• Pianist Randy Weston.
• Robert W. Krueger, longtime director of music education in Northport and namesake of the bandshell in the Northport Village Park. He will be honored as music educator of the year.
