(Setauket, NY – July 10, 2012)  Gallery North presents its annual group show, Local Color, featuring current work by contemporary Long Island artists.  With an impressive array of regional talent, this year’s exhibition is a two-part production.  Photography, the focus of Local Color I, ran for three weeks, from August 3 – 24.  Local Color II will highlight painting, also for three weeks, from August 31 – September 21. Through these distinct and compelling media, Local Color explores the themes and textures of Long Island in a celebration of its people and places.

Together, the photographers and painters showcase the natural beauty of Long Island’s sea and skyscapes, woods, and fields, as well as the bustle and interplay of its roads and residents.  With a two-part show, Local Color highlights the unique perspectives that photography and painting can offer as each artist investigates her/his point of view and the living environment. Local Color II will have an Opening reception, on August 31.

Gallery North showcases the vibrant creativity of artists and craftspeople from Long Island and nearby areas. The not-for-profit gallery presents original exhibitions, community events and educational programs throughout the year.  Established in 1965, Gallery North focuses on contemporary art in a variety of media: painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, glass, metal and fiber. Exhibits explore the diversity and vitality of the arts on Long Island, while classes, workshops, excursions, talks and annual festivals involve community members in the lively process of making art.
