Village People: Social Worker Joins Practice, Science Educator Lauded

These local residents have made headlines.

New Life Chiropractic in Smithtown has announced Stacey Spata of East Setauket has joined the practice as a licensed clinical social worker as part of the expansion of its wellness team. Spata, a former clinical director with YMCA Family Services who also has her own private practice, has 15 years of counseling experience. One of the doctors in the practice, Dr. Brent Reynolds, had this to say about Spata's arrival: "Her expertise in identifying the root cause of the patient’s psychological condition and applying custom-tailored treatment modalities will help our patients experience renewed vitality and happiness."

Three Village resident David Micklos has been lauded by the Genetics Society of America, receiving its 2012 Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Education. Micklos is the founder of the DNA Learning Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, established in 1987, as well as the lead author of the textbook DNA Science: A First Course, which is now in its second edition. The award "recognizes significant and sustained impact in genetics education." Micklos is also a former school board president in the Three Village Central School District.

The American Heart Association will be honoring Anne D. Shybunko-Moore at its 11th annual "Go Red for Women" luncheon this month, Newsday reported last week. The East Setauket resident, who is president of GSE Dynamics in Hauppauge, is being lauded for her work educating others – especially women – about heart disease and stroke.
