As flooding spreads on Shore Road in East Setauket, local businesses are coping with the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
At Se-Port Deli, owner Wisam Dakwar said the store will remain open as long as possible, until the flooding gets too heavy or the store loses power.
"Only God knows now," Dakwar said. "I hope nothing happens."
At neighboring Samantha Drew, owner Michelle Mancuso and her team were busy preparing the store in case it becomes flooded. The pond next door is already flooded up to the first step on the bridge, Mancuso said.
"Our whole posse is here putting everything up on wooden blocks, covering everything with tarps," said Mancuso, whose store had closed due to fire damage during the summer and fall of 2011. "We're just hoping for the best."
Management at Setauket Harbor Canoes and Kayaks could not be reached for comment.
Shore Road was recently the site of a road reconstruction project.
