Shelter Pet of the Week: Chico's One Smart Pup

This five-year-old Chihuahua is looking for a home.

Less can be more, even in the case of dogs. Take a look at our tiniest shelter dog yet – Chico the Chihuahua, a resident of Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue in Port Jefferson Station.

Chico is five years old and was brought to the shelter when his family did not have time to take care of him. Shelter staff would like to see him placed in a home where he can get the love that he deserves. Chico is brown with big, soulful eyes, and would do well if his future owner chose to train him. Despite their portrayal as an accessory in pop culture, Chihuahuas are actually a highly intelligent breed, and Chico could be a smart pup for anyone who wants to teach his dog tricks.

Chico is housetrained, neutered, and up-to-date with all of his routine shots.
