Jan. 30: Particle Physics, Science Fiction, and Spirituality

Here's what's happening Sunday in Three Village.

Science and spirituality appear to be the buzzwords in town Sunday. You can indulge your inner physicist – or Trekkie – or explore various spiritual topics with your religious organization of choice.

1. We've got a hunch there's a few people out there in Three Village who know their way around a particle collider. Head to Borders in Stony Brook at 3 p.m. to join three Brookhaven National Laboratory physicists for a , the internationally renowned particle physics lab.

2. But if science fiction is more your thing, don't miss at the Staller Center at 4 p.m. It's recommended for ages 7 and up, but somehow, we think there may be a few grownups attempting to indulge their inner Trekkies, too.

3. Although some may disagree with their definition of "senior" – which in this case appears to start at age 50 – you can't argue with their intent. Temple Isaiah's , a gathering for the more mature crowd featuring refreshments and a variety of activities, will meet at 1:30 p.m.

4. Across Three Village, Sunday is often a time for spiritual dialogue at the various religious organizations. At the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Stony Brook, the topic of discussion is looking inside oneself for the answer to moral questions with a service called "What Would Jesus (or George or Susan or Fred) Do?" starting at 10:30 a.m.
