Where Are They Now? Ward Melville Alumni Impact NCAA Contenders

Take a look at the success the Patriots have been having since moving on to college.

With the NCAA lacrosse season nearing its home stretch, Patch took a look at some former Ward Melville athletes who are busy leaving their mark on the top-ranked collegiate teams.

In only eight games with third-ranked Duke women's lacrosse, Makenzie Hommel (2009) is one of the team's leading scorers. In her sophomore year, she's tallied 12 goals and five assists on 60 percent shooting so far.

Jimmy Ryan (2010) finished his high school career as an All-American and the school's 2010 . As a freshman at No. 19 Colgate, Ryan has appeared in all ten games and started three. So far, Ryan has racked up five goals and an assist for the Raiders, including three points in the last two games. He had a goal and an assist in Colgate's upset win over then ninth-ranked Army.

Steven Rastivo (2008) has taken over as the starting goalie for eighth-ranked North Carolina. In the three games since being named the starter, Rastivo has allowed just 23 goals for a goals against average of 7.67 per game and a .596 save percentage. He was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for March 28.

Former Paul Tredder award-winner Kyle Moeller (2008) has started every game he's played on the college level. Starting his first two years at Manhattan, he earned All-MAAC second team and MAAC All-Defensive team honors before transferring to Stony Brook, currently No. 14 in the USILA coaches poll. Through eight games as a Seawolf, Moeller has 21 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.

At Ward Melville, Pat Day (2009) was the school's Most Outstanding Male Athlete award winner. He spent a year at Army Prep before coming back home to play for Stony Brook. In his first year playing for coach Rick Sowell, Day has appeared in five games on the back line.

Pat's older brother Chris Day (2007) can lately be seen playing defense for the No. 13 Army Black Knights. Chris was a captain his senior year for the Patriots and also quarterbacked the football team.

Freshman Matt Kunkel (2010) has been trying to fit in on a national contender at Duke. The three-time Suffolk All County player has played in three games for the fourth-ranked Blue Devils, starting one.

After spending his first two seasons at Quinnipiac, midfielder Zachary Pall (2008) transferred to No. 8 Hofstra. The 2008 All American has appeared in seven games this season and has won 53 percent of his faceoffs.
